Let's face it: you know nothing about this.
As soon as we got the Jeep to my dad's backyard, we began a complete overhaul. With only 300USD in my pocket, my hopes were better than my grasp for reality. BUT, I'm an Engineer and my dad has A LOT of scrap metal and car parts at his house because, as I said in another post: we do everything by ourselves. So, he has a collection of spare parts from old cars of him and even parts from a 2001 KIA Carnival he owned and burnt down in an accident. I had to make the best of my money and buy only what I could not fabricate or build. But let's face it: at this point, I don't really know what's happening. All I know is that I must take a set of tools and unscrew every single bolt I find and take out the engine.
The process of dissasembling the Jeep was fast. I'd done previous mechanic work in my life, and on board the tanker vessels I sailed, but nothing like this... So many nuts and bolts! Jesus, take the wheel because I can't drive!. I have the need for order. Every bolt and nut I took out was inmediatly trown into a bag along with everything from that specific part. When I was done removing that piece, the bag was sealed and named. The day was going smoothly, taking my time to unscrew everything with pacience. But I lost my mind when my uber-super-duper-intelligent dad took EVERYTHING from the bags and threw it in a plastic bucket. I wanted to kill him, OMG! And laughing at me he said something that will be stuck in my mind forever:
''Don't worry, bolts talk.''
A year has passed since he told me that, and as I'm writing this, no bolt has ever spoken to me telling were it belongs in the Jeep.
Back to dissasembling. After some time and effort we managed to take out the engine.
Now to disassemble everything else to let the bare chassis and paint it.
This is the moment when I truly realized the inmense task I had in my hands. Doing this kind of builds require something I don't have: money. Will I be able to rebuild it and convert it into a true overlander with just 300USD? Reality began to dawn on me. I think I can't do it. Logic is telling me it cannot be done. But again: I'm an Engineer. I must do it. And just said to myself: Let's keep working and see what happens...
